It is necessary

  • - potatoes,
  • - knife.

Instructions

Step 1

To do this, you must first peel the potatoes and rinse thoroughly with warm water. Then it is worth removing (cutting out with a knife) all dark spots and brown spots on the tubers. By the way, you need to try to pick them up about the same size, so that the straws later on will also be the same and beautiful in appearance. You should not take sprouted or green potatoes: they are not tasty, and, most likely, there are no nutrients left in them.

Step 2

The amount of good potatoes should be calculated depending on how many people you are preparing dinner or lunch for. After all these preparations, proceed to the main part of the work - cutting the potatoes into strips. You need to peel and cut the potatoes with a thin and very sharp knife. Otherwise, you will not achieve the desired result. You need to chop just before cooking. If you do this earlier, the potatoes will turn black and look unattractive even after cooking.

Step 3

Cut the tuber with a knife very carefully lengthwise into several equal slices, about three millimeters thick. Then each part of the cut potato must be cut also lengthwise into several pieces - strips. Here, you already determine the thickness yourself, as much as your heart desires. However, it is not recommended to make only very thick straws, since the potatoes will then be fried for a very long time, and this will affect the taste of the prepared dish. In general, the average thickness of the resulting straw should be two or three millimeters.

Step 4

Repeat all the same steps described above with the rest of the potato tubers. If you are going to cook fries, then dry the straws with a paper towel so that all the starch is gone. Then your dish will turn out the same as served in a cafe.

Step 5

If, for some reason, you are too lazy to cut potatoes by hand, then when you go shopping, you can always choose special devices for cutting potatoes into strips. They allow you to do this in just a few minutes. True, in order to make beautiful blanks, you need to "get your hand" on them. But everything can be learned if there is a desire.
