Water in a plastic bottle should be kept at room temperature in a dark place. A closed water bottle can be stored for up to a year, and an open one for no more than ten days. The plastic of the bottle must comply with the PET grade.
Today, more and more plastic water bottles can be seen on store shelves, and at the doorways there are many advertisements for the delivery of bottled water. Retail chains are happy to take water in plastic containers for sale, since it has a long shelf life.
Under normal conditions, water begins to change under the influence of light and heat, and over time, bacteria that enter the water give it an unpleasant smell and taste. But how is water stored in supermarkets? The fact is that manufacturers canned all the water in plastic bottles.
There are several ways to preserve:
• Addition of antibiotic;
• Carbonation;
• Ozonation.
Water preserved in the first way can be stored for a very long time. But having antibiotics can harm your health and lower your immunity.
Carbonation and ozonation are harmless preservation methods, but such water will be stored until the bottle is opened. Therefore, after you unpack the bottle, you need to drink this water within a few days.
How to store water in a plastic bottle
If you buy bottled water, you need to set aside a dark place in your kitchen or closet to store it. The optimum temperature for storing water is 15-30 degrees Celsius. Store the water that has been recently spilled and produced in your area - it retains more nutrients. Pay special attention to the plastic that the water storage bottle is made of.
What plastic bottle should you store water in?
The container in which the water is stored must be made of food grade plastic. The packaging must be marked with PET, such bottles are made from a substance called polyethylene terephthalate, it does not react with water and is safe for human health. Never store water in a PVC bottle. The material from which it is made has toxic properties. Do not store melamine bottled water.
If there is no information on the bottle, then there is an easy way to check which class it belongs to. You need to press with your fingernail on one of the sections of the bottle. A whitish “scar” will appear on PVC plastic, but PET containers will remain unchanged. You can recognize the melamine container by lightly tapping on it - the sound will be muffled.
Shelf life of water in a plastic bottle
Canned water in a plastic bottle has a shelf life of six to twelve months; once you open the bottle, the water can be stored for up to ten days.
In addition to the shelf life, water has a "usefulness" period. This is the time after which most of the nutrients in the water will lose their properties. Therefore, when purchasing water in a plastic bottle, look at the bottling date - the fresher the water, the longer you can store it.
