Agree that most of all honey, which is so useful for colds, we use in winter. But how do you eat a three-liter can in one season? Will he disappear after?
The answer to this question depends primarily on where the honey was purchased and how it was made. If you bought a jar with a branded sticker in a store, then the expiration date should be indicated on it. GOST clearly regulates these numbers: from eight months to a year. It is allowed to store honey in an airtight container for two years. So if the manufacturer has indicated a longer shelf life on the label, then it can be considered unfair.
Taste or benefit?
This is about state standards that manufacturers are required to comply with. If honey was collected on time, and not earlier than the due date, if it was made without unnecessary additives, then such honey can be stored for a very long time. Amateur beekeepers who breed bees themselves believe that honey can last forever.
Perhaps this is so. But over time, even high-quality honey begins to lose its beneficial properties, for which it is so valued. After all, honey helps with coughing, serves as the prevention of cardiovascular diseases, has a beneficial effect on the work of the gastrointestinal tract, enhances the vitality of the body as a whole, and if taken before bedtime, it acts as a sedative. However, even if the healing abilities gradually decrease, it still remains edible and tasty.
Away from the sun
However, it happens that honey can acquire a sour taste and foam. These are clear signs of honey spoilage. And the reason for this is improper storage. In the hive, honey does not spoil at all. Neither oxygen nor microorganisms penetrate there. When the honeycomb is opened, the tightness is broken. In order for it to be stored as long as possible, it is important to keep it away from sunlight, in a sealed container, with low humidity and a temperature of no higher than twenty degrees. Usually honey is stored in a dark place where it is not very hot. It is also not recommended to keep honey in the refrigerator, although this will not negatively affect its shelf life. The thing is that cold accelerates the process of honey crystallization, which is inevitable. By the way, many people are afraid of crystallized honey, considering it poor quality. In fact, this is a natural process, and if honey remains liquid for several months, then, on the contrary, it is falsified. The only exception is acacia honey.
