The world learned about Belgian waffles in 1958, then they were tasting at the Brussels World Exhibition. Unlike regular ones, they are thicker and crisp. To prepare this dessert, you definitely need a waffle iron with large cells.
Belgian waffles are made from butter yeast dough based on eggs and butter. The finished dessert is usually covered with glaze.
To prepare Belgian waffles you will need:
- eggs - 5 pcs.;
- pressed yeast - 30 g;
- sugar - 1 tbsp. l.;
- butter - 100 g;
- milk - 500 ml;
- flour - 600 ml;
- salt;
- vanillin.
For glaze:
- cream or milk - 100 ml;
- dark chocolate - 50 g.
Crack the eggs, separate the yolks from the whites. Sift flour into a bowl, add salt, vanillin, sugar, melted butter. Put yeast in warm milk and add to flour. Stir the yolks, beat the whites into a foam, add to the dough. Cover the bowl with a towel and place in a warm place for 40-50 minutes.
Then turn on the waffle iron and let it warm up. Lubricate the surface with vegetable oil. Pour dough into each container and close the appliance. Place ready-made waffles on a plate.
Make the frosting. Put a bowl in a water bath, put the pieces of chocolate in it. When it starts to melt, pour in milk or cream, stir and cook a little. Sprinkle fresh berries on the finished waffles and cover with chocolate icing.
Belgian waffles are served only warm.
Belgian waffles can be made without yeast, in which case you need a baking powder. To prepare yeast-free wafer dough, you need:
- sugar - 200 g;
- flour - 250 g;
- butter - 200 g;
- eggs - 4 pcs.;
- salt;
- baking powder - 1 sachet;
- fresh berries.
Put softened butter in a bowl, add sugar, salt and rub. Add 2 eggs, stir well until smooth and add 2 more eggs. Mix thoroughly with a blender or mixer.
Combine the flour and baking powder and add small portions to the mixture while whisking. Heat the waffle iron, brush with vegetable oil, spoon the dough portions and bake until tender.
Fill the waffles with the filling just before serving, as they will become too soft. You can use fruits, whipped cream, cream, ice cream, jam, condensed milk, honey.
Belgian waffles can be made with milk, no butter and no eggs. For this you will need:
- flour - 2, 5 tbsp.;
- baking powder - 1 sachet;
- sugar - 3 tablespoons;
- nutmeg -1/3 tsp;
- soda - 0.5 tsp;
- salt - 0.5 tsp;
- cinnamon - 0.5 tsp;
- vanillin - 0.5 sachets;
- milk - 2, 5 tbsp.;
- vegetable oil - 3 tablespoons
Pour flour into a bowl, add baking powder, spices, salt, sugar. Pour in vegetable oil and milk, stir until smooth. If desired, you can add 1/3 tsp into the dough. turmeric for color.
Turn on the waffle iron. When it's warmed up, brush the molds with butter and lay out the dough. Bake the waffles until tender.
Try making the original caramel waffle filling. The following products are required:
- sugar - 0.5 tbsp.;
- butter - 50 g;
- cream - 200 ml;
- cinnamon - 0.5 tsp
Pour sugar into a saucepan, put on low heat. It should melt and take on a brownish tint. Cut the butter into chunks, add it to the saucepan and stir. Then pour in the cream and cook for a few minutes until thickened. Cool the caramel, brush one wafer, cover with the other and press together.
