If you are cooking a dish with peppers or harvesting peppers, be careful not to get the capsaicin on your skin or eyes. Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water if you handle peppers with unprotected hands.

Drink something containing fat to counteract the burning sensation in your mouth, as capsaicin is a fat-soluble substance that is not soluble in water. Cream, yogurt, or milk will do. cold drinks, for example, cold milk, help very well, since the psychological effect of cooling is added to the objective effect (dissolution of the burning substance in fat milk). Folk remedies in case of hot pepper getting into the mouth: cucumbers, salt, honey and bread. Eating these foods is believed to help reduce the burning sensation.

If hot peppers get on your hands, rub salt over the affected area. In this case, you can add a drop of water to the salt to spread the salt evenly over the entire skin. Finish off by rinsing off the salt with milk and then with soap and water. If that doesn't work, soak your hands in a strong alcoholic beverage for a few minutes. Salt removes stubborn peppers from the skin, and milk, soap, alcohol dissolve the remaining particles. Try ice as well, it can temporarily relieve irritated skin.
