Among gardeners, the problem of storing vegetables grown on the site in the winter season is widespread. It is very difficult to protect garlic from germination or rot in winter, for example. Only the right storage conditions can guarantee the invariability of all the taste qualities of this product, indispensable for many people.
Instructions
Step 1
Having completely dried the garlic in the apartment with the batteries or heater turned on, its heads must be laid out in three-liter glass jars. Such dishes, of course, should be in the arsenal of any gardener. Each jar should be about two-thirds full with heads of garlic. In addition to the garlic, small bags of salt should be placed in the jars. Then the container must be tightly closed with plastic lids. It is advisable to put all jars of garlic in a cool place. In this case, those gardeners who have an underground floor were very lucky.
Step 2
You can save garlic in winter in another way. In late autumn, its heads must be wrapped in plastic bags, bandaged and wrapped in several layers of newspaper. Then the resulting bundles must be buried on the site. With the onset of cold weather, these secluded places where garlic is buried should be covered with tomato, carrot or potato tops. The disadvantage of this way of storing garlic is that it can only be dug up in the spring, after the snow melts.
Step 3
The bottom of an ordinary mailbox with holes must be covered with a layer of salt. The heads of garlic should be carefully laid out on it. Top them also need to be covered with salt. Then lay out the row of garlic heads again. And so on to the very top of the box. People who use this method of storing garlic claim that the product remains juicy under such conditions until spring.
Step 4
When storing garlic in the kitchen, at room temperature, in no case should it be wrapped in polyethylene, otherwise it may suffocate and rot. It is better to store garlic in tight cloth bags, covering it with dry onion husks, wood ash or dry sawdust.
Step 5
You can save garlic in winter by grinding it into garlic powder. For this, the cloves of garlic must be peeled, washed, cut into thin slices, thoroughly dried and ground. This garlic powder is very convenient to use as a seasoning for any dish.
Step 6
And you can store garlic in oil in winter. Peeled cloves of garlic should be placed in a three-liter jar, filled with oil and covered with a plastic lid with holes made in advance. Keep a jar of garlic in the refrigerator. This way, the garlic will always be ready to eat. In addition, the oil in which the product is stored will also acquire a pleasant garlic taste.
