In the past few years, it has become fashionable to decorate cakes with mastic figurines. Moreover, it is important to choose them according to the theme of the celebration. For example, surgical instruments will be suitable for a representative of the medical professional industry for an anniversary, and a small mastic machine for a little boy's birthday.
The first step is to select the prototype of the model. Nowadays, many kids are fans of cartoons, others like classic cars. In the latter case, everything is much simpler.
What ingredients are needed for an edible machine
To create white mastic, you must have in stock:
- marshmallows - 50 gr.;
- lemon juice - 1 tablespoon;
- sifted icing sugar - to bring the mixture to the state of a plastic mass.
You will also need chocolate mastic, which must include:
- dark chocolate - 100 gr.;
- butter - 1 tablespoon;
- marshmallows - 120 gr.;
- cream - 40 ml;
- vodka or cognac - 1 tablespoon.
As for the internal filling, then six pieces of marshmallow will come in handy.
The process of making mastic
It is worth noting that white mastic is needed to form glass, headlights and car discs, and brown mastic is necessary to cover the cake in general and the car body in particular.
The marshmallows should be melted in the microwave, with many adding lemon juice straight away. If initially the confection is two-colored, then it is worth taking only the white part. When the soufflé increases in volume under the influence of heating, sifted powdered sugar is added there. The mixture is kneaded like a regular dough - first with a spoon, then with your hands until a dense mass. When the sweet dough starts to stick to the surface and hands, you need to add a little powdered sugar.
Special emphasis should be placed on the fact that the powder must be sifted or fine-crystalline, otherwise there is a risk of rupture, the characteristics of plasticity and uniformity deteriorate.
Cooking chocolate mastic also begins with melting marshmallows in the microwave, to which hot chocolate, cream, butter and cognac are then added. Powdered sugar is added last.
Both prepared mastics are wrapped in foil and placed in the refrigerator for 30 minutes. In the meantime, the machine body is being prepared from marshmallow. On the blocks, the edges are slightly rounded to give the model a streamline. This blank is covered with a layer of rolled chocolate mastic. To clean the surface from powder, the mastic is treated with a brush dipped in vodka. As a result of such manipulations, the mastic will acquire a shine.
A white piece of mastic will come in handy for car parts. It is necessary to very carefully cut out the squares for the glass, prepare the circles for the disks and "crescents" for the headlights. From the remaining mastic, you can sculpt the figure of the past years. Parts are sent for drying. They can be coated with food coloring if desired. The machine is ready for assembly. To do this, the surfaces of wheels, disks, car bodies are moistened with water, which are thus glued together. As a result, it won't take much time to make a mini-car.
