The origin of the word "prison"

If you look into the etymological dictionary, you will find that the word "tyurya" is native Russian and does not have reliable information about its origin. Most likely, the word comes from the verb "to rub", that is, "to grind, to crumble."

If you try to follow the path of associations, the first thing that comes to mind is a word from the infant vocabulary: “bye-bye” - which means “nothing is gone, gone”.

Yes, jail is a dish that can be prepared when there is almost nothing edible left in the house. All you had to do was to crush the bread, fill it with water - and slurp your health. This is the food of the poor since time immemorial.

In a particularly hungry time, they put quinoa in the jail - a herb that grows in abundance in vegetable gardens.

Turi cooking options

Bread crumbs covered in water are too primitive. It is unlikely that today anyone makes such a dish. However, leaving the main components - bread and liquid - you can dream up and diversify your table.

It is important to consider only that the jail is prepared immediately before eating. It was never done for the future, and it is not worth doing.

One of the national Russian drinks is kvass. It was often used to make turi. To make it tastier, not bread is put into kvass, but croutons fried in advance. Add a little onion or green onions and a little vegetable oil. This is another simple recipe for turi, which came from ancient times.

If you replace kvass with milk, and do not add onion and butter at all, you get a children's prison. Dozens, if not hundreds of generations have grown up on such a dish.

But if you go back to kvass, add more greens, boiled potatoes, an egg, you get okroshka, the sister of turi. These dishes were always eaten cold, and cooked, respectively, in the summer.

Lenten okroshka was often present on the peasant's table, since in the summer there was rarely meat.

Turya can be not only with a bow. It is not a sin to add any vegetables to it: cucumbers, radish, horseradish, radish, garlic.

Going further, you can make a tomato-based jail. Italians have a similar dish. It is called gazpacho. Chop finely and add diced black bread, celery root, garlic to the tomato juice. Of course, you need to salt and pour with olive oil. If desired, you can use pepper or some other spice.

Tyurya is an excellent food during fasting: it is simple, affordable and, if you don’t skimp on components, then it is high in calories.

It's funny, but turyu is served in some rather expensive restaurants of Russian cuisine. Of course, there is also bread not from the store, but specially prepared croutons, probably something else. But jail still remains jail - a simple, unpretentious dish.
