Tequila is a distilled spirit made from the pulp of blue agave, which is considered a traditional plant in Mexico. Like any alcohol, tequila requires a specific snack that will accentuate the taste of the drink and prevent the alcohol from quickly clouding the mind.

Classics of the genre

If you are going to drink a whole glass or two of tequila as an aperitif or digestif, you should eat this alcoholic drink with coarse salt and a slice of juicy lime. To do this, you need to pour a little salt on your hand between your thumb and forefinger, lick it off, then quickly knock over a shot of tequila and eat a lime. In bars, another method is often practiced - salt is applied to the edges of a glass with tequila, which allows you to drink alcohol immediately with salt.

Today it is believed that lime and salt perfectly set off the taste of tequila. It is not known for certain who came up with the idea of eating this alcoholic drink with these products. According to one of the versions, it was an advertising stunt of tequila producers, invented for its sale to America and European countries. According to the other, such a snack was invented by Mexican doctors in the 20s of the last century, when, during a flu epidemic, they prescribed tequila with lime and salt to patients instead of antibiotics. However, the Mexicans themselves do not practice drinking this alcoholic drink with such products.

Heavy snacks

Since tequila is the national alcoholic drink of Mexico, traditional dishes of this country are best served as snacks. One of them, for example, is a burrito. To prepare it, you need to bake a thin wheat cake in the oven or in a pan and wrap it in a thick stew of minced meat, rice, tomatoes, refried beans and, of course, a lot of salsa - a Mexican seasoning based on chili peppers.

You can use any other food stuffing for burritos, such as sour cream, garlic sauce, cheese, and avocado pulp.

Another Mexican dish, quesadillas, goes well with tequila. They are half-folded and fried corn tortillas with potatoes, sweet corn, cheese, or mushrooms. They should also be served with salsa or, at worst, with spicy ketchup.

Instead of salsa, you can make guacamole sauce. To do this, grind the avocado pulp, salt, lime juice, chili and black pepper in a blender.

Of the simpler, but no less satisfying tequila snacks, boiled or grilled shrimps, which are served with garlic sauce, are best suited. Or corn chips with salsa. Lavash chips seasoned with various spices are also suitable as a snack. They can be cooked in the oven or deep-fried.
