Mangosteen, also known as mangosteen and garcinia, is one of the most delicious fruits in the world. Despite the name, it has nothing to do with mango. These are small fruits with a thick purple-brown skin, under which is hidden a snow-white translucent segmented pulp, which literally melts in the mouth. It has a citrusy taste with light peach notes and a pleasant aroma.

It is necessary

  • - fruits of mangosteen;
  • - a sharp knife;
  • - dessert spoon.

Instructions

Step 1

To fully appreciate all the taste delights of mangosteen, you must first choose the right one. Take the fruit in your hand and squeeze lightly. The ripe fruit is firm to the touch, but slightly bouncy when pressed lightly. Cracked peel indicates overripe fruit, and hard, like a stone, indicates unripeness. It is better to refuse to buy such mangosteens. They will not be tasty anyway.

Step 2

The peel of this exotic fruit is not eaten, but it can be used for cosmetic purposes. To get to its edible pulp, stick a sharp knife into the petiole and, using force, cut the peel into two halves. Make sure that the knife does not reach the very flesh. After that, carefully peel the skin off the fruit. You will have the mangosteen pulp in your hands, resembling a head of garlic in shape and a jelly in consistency.

Step 3

You can do it even easier. Cut off the top of the fruit with a knife, and remove the pulp with a dessert spoon. Be careful, as sometimes quite large bones can be present in it. By the way, the more lobules in the pulp, the less seeds it will contain.

Step 4

Mangosteen is eaten mostly fresh, juice is made from it, and is also used to prepare exotic salads, milkshakes, soufflés, pie fillings and even fish sauce. Delicate, refined taste of this fruit is in perfect harmony with seafood, especially shrimp and squid. To add an original flavor to ordinary ice cream, kefir and yogurt, simply remove the mangosteen pulp, cut it into pieces and add to them.

Step 5

Residents of Malaysia and Indonesia successfully preserve and dry mangosteen. True, only young fruits are used for this.
