For us, mangoes are exotic, although now you can find everything on store shelves. But in the equatorial regions of the globe, they are as familiar as our apples. In India, these fruits have been cultivated since the 2nd century BC. Mango is stored, of course, not in the same way as an apple. How to store this fruit so that it does not deteriorate after a couple of days?
Instructions
Step 1
Mango should be kept at room temperature. But no more than five days. Even if the fruits are not ripe a little, wrap them in newsprint and leave them indoors. They will become more ripe and aromatic. You can leave the fruits at a lower temperature of +10 degrees. So they will lie unharmed longer - about 3 weeks.
But the refrigerator is not the best place for these fruits. Mangoes cannot stand cold. The maximum for them is one day in the refrigerator, and then if the fruits are ripe. At low temperatures, the flesh of the mango is destroyed. But remember that usually mangoes don't sit for weeks. Do not buy this fruit a month before the holiday. You need to consume the mango within a few days.
Step 2
In addition, there are many ways to preserve mango, invented in the homeland of this delicious fruit. After all, not only we harvest from the beds for the winter. You can soak the fruit in salt water until it is crispy and colorless. These are pickled mangoes, they call it mamuang dongor. You can also soak it in syrup - it will be mamuang chae - soaked in mango sugar.
Step 3
You can dry the mango in the sun - the fruit will turn brown, shiny and last longer. Salted dried mango is a great snack that can even relieve motion sickness symptoms.
Alternatively, you can simply cut the mango into pieces and freeze it.
Step 4
It is important and correct to choose this exotic fruit. This also determines how long the mango will stay fresh and appetizing. The color of the peel will tell you nothing - the color of the mango varies from reddish to greenish. But the skin should be shiny. A good mango fruit is slightly elastic - should not crumple too much from finger pressure. It is better not to buy overripe fruits. But the light smell, similar to turpentine, should not scare you - this is a feature of mango.
