The benefits of consuming cereals are very difficult to overestimate, and oatmeal is one of the most popular varieties. Probably, all Russians know the famous expression "oatmeal, sir!", But in modern stores the raw materials for the preparation of this dish can be sold under different names - oatmeal and rolled oats. So what's the difference between the two?
What are rolled oats and oatmeal?
If we conduct a detailed examination of this issue with a deeper understanding of the production methodology, the following results can be obtained. Oatmeal or, as it is also called, oatmeal is a whole grain, in its appearance a bit like ordinary rice. Cooking the grain takes a longer time - usually at least 30 minutes.
In turn, rolled oats is the commercial name for flakes made from whole oats. It is obtained in the following way - in special industrial machines, the grain is first cleaned, then steamed and flattened. In principle, rolled oats are fundamentally different from oatmeal, a product that takes only 5-8 minutes to cook, or even simple steaming with boiling water.
At the same time, it is believed that oatmeal is a less useful product, since prolonged heat treatment can literally wash out useful vitamins and substances from it. It is, of course, quite satisfying, but some nutritionists call oatmeal "empty food", which is suitable for infrequent snacks and does not have the valuable oatmeal rejuvenating and revitalizing effect.
Nutritional properties of oatmeal and rolled oats

Less, but still there is chlorine, sulfur and sodium in cereals.
Another microelement that fiber is full of is silicon, which makes this product a real natural gift that brings beauty and youth to a person. But, as mentioned above, in order to get all this benefit, it is best to cook cereals, and not "empty" rolled oats.
