Curacao is one of the most popular modern liqueurs. There are a huge number of options for its preparation, but the main feature of this liqueur is not the taste, but the addition of food colors that glow in the glass in the neon of clubs and discos.
Alcoholic sweetness
Curacao is an exquisite and very specific club liqueur, which is an auxiliary element for creating a variety of cocktails. It is impossible to drink pure curacao, because it contains a large amount of food coloring that stains the entire oral cavity, including the teeth, keeping the shade of the drink on them for up to several days. In addition, the liqueur has a too cloying sweet taste, and the strength is about 24-30 degrees.
Most often, fruit, ice cream, and other desserts are served with the liquor. In addition, curacao can be paired with coffee or tea.
Curacao comes in three color schemes: bright blue (most popular for its ability to glow in neon lights), bright red, almost bloody, and deep green. Yellow and transparent curaçao are not popular, it is difficult to judge the reasons, but most likely this is due to chemical flavoring additives that give the liquor a citrus smell and taste.
Making cocktails with Curacao
One of the most popular blue curaçao cocktails is the Blue Hawaii cocktail. Pineapple juice is added to 30 grams of liqueur - at least 100 grams, a small amount of rum and coconut milk or coconut cream liqueur. A large amount of ice in the form of a smoothie or a few large cubes of frozen water is appropriate.
The Bikini Teeny cocktail is also famous. It contains vodka, Blue Curacao syrup, pineapple juice, Passion syrup and a sour mix. Mix 50 grams of vodka and 30-40 grams of curacao, bring the resulting volume to 200 grams with pineapple juice. Passion and a sour mix are added to the cocktail, already poured into glasses, creating sometimes bizarre patterns on top of the cocktail liquid. This drink is served in a cocktail glass and decorated with mint leaves and a cherry.
Bikini teeny has a delightful bluish-green hue, which skillful bartenders illuminate favorably with lamps on the bar counters.
Quite often you can find the Tsunami cocktail. It consists of 30 grams of cold tequila, 20 grams of Blue Curacao syrup, 10 grams of lemon juice, 10-15 grams of sugar syrup, and a few drops of red tabasco. Usually, all the ingredients, except the sugar syrup, are mixed with a shaker, and the thick sugar syrup is added to the glass as a top layer. You need to drink a cocktail in one gulp, and the name itself already speaks of the consequences.
The Raquel cocktail is a very unusual chocolate-flavored cocktail. It contains: Blue Curacao syrup, vodka, a rather rare violet liqueur, chocolate liqueur, heavy cream and ice. It is curious that there are no exact dosages of ingredients, it all depends on the imagination and skill of the bartender. The cocktail is served in a chilled cocktail glass decorated with cocoa powder. It is considered an expensive drink for young ladies.
The Lady Chatterley cocktail is relatively new to the Russian club scene. The drink contains curacao liqueur, 150 grams of gin, 50 grams of dry vermouth and 50 grams of orange juice. A shaker also helps to create a drink, but it is not customary to pour the foam formed when shaking into a cocktail glass. The drink is served in the form of an aperitif in a glass on a high leg with ice.
