In hot weather, thirst can be a serious problem. There are several tricks that can help you deal with it. One of them is to drink often and little by little, but what is the best way to quench your thirst?
How to quench your thirst?
Most experts strongly recommend adding a little lemon or even a pinch of salt to the water (this method is used in the east, where fighting heat and thirst is a matter of survival). Half a citrus is enough for two liters. Instead of ordinary table water, you can drink mineral water, since it contains salts that are excreted from the body along with sweat, thus not disturbing the water-salt balance. It is best to choose alkaline mineral water, but there should not be too much salt in it, especially for people with urolithiasis or kidney disease. Excessively high mineralization of water can seriously increase the load on the heart, which is quite dangerous in the heat.
Tan or ayran is a wonderful drink that quenches not only thirst, but also hunger. It contains vitamins, proteins, various beneficial microorganisms, and it also stimulates digestion. Ayran or tan can be bought in large stores, or you can make it like it at home. To do this, you need to add mineral water to unsweetened natural kefir or even yogurt. Usually, one part of mineral water is taken for two parts of kefir. A little salt and chopped herbs are added to this mixture; cilantro, dill, basil and parsley are suitable. This drink helps to cope with thirst, but not everyone likes it.
Teas and fruit drinks
Iced green tea is an excellent thirst quencher. The composition of this drink contains tannins, which quite strongly inhibit the absorption of fluid from the intestines, which allows you not to feel thirst for a long time. It is better not to use commercial ready-made cold green teas, but to brew the drink yourself. You can add lime, lemon or mint to green tea to add a spice to the flavor and help you relax.
Natural fruit drink is another great drink. Fruit drinks made from currants or other fresh berries contain a huge amount of nutrients and vitamins, of course, if they are properly prepared. According to the simplest fruit drink recipes, you need to take 300 grams of fresh or frozen berries and crush them properly, drain the resulting juice into a separate container, grind the pulp with half a glass of sugar, then pour in a liter of water and boil for five minutes. The resulting drink must be filtered and cooled to room temperature, after which you can add juice to it. This drink can be kept in the refrigerator for up to five days. Please note that fruit drinks are not suitable for people with stomach diseases or high acidity of gastric juice.
