Cabbage rolls are a very tasty and satisfying dish. True, not all housewives dare to cook them, since the process takes a long time. But if you really want to pamper your relatives with this dish, then you need to cook cabbage rolls as much as possible in order to gather the whole family at the table.

It is necessary

  • - 1.5 kg of cabbage leaves;
  • - 1 kg of minced pork and beef;
  • - 2 onions;
  • - 2 red peppers;
  • - 100 gr. rice;
  • - 1 slice of bread;
  • - 300 gr. smoked bacon or lard;
  • - 5 spoons of ketchup;
  • - 150 ml of olive oil;
  • - 2 bay leaves;
  • - dessert spoon of dry dill;
  • - half a dessert spoon of ground black pepper;
  • - salt to taste;
  • - juice of one lemon;
  • - 1 teaspoon dry savory (can be substituted with thyme).

Instructions

Step 1

Finely chop the red pepper and onion and fry in olive oil for 5 minutes. Add the pre-washed rice to the pan, fry, stirring constantly, so that it absorbs the oil. Add 100 ml of water, turn off the heat and stir the rice for 3 minutes.

Step 2

Cut the bacon (or lard) into small pieces and mix with the minced meat. Soak the bread in water, squeeze it and add to the minced meat. Pour in 2 tablespoons of olive oil, sprinkle the meat with seasonings (dill, black pepper, savory). Salt, put rice and onions in a bowl with minced meat, add ketchup and mix everything very thoroughly with your hands to get a homogeneous mass.

Step 3

We remove the minced meat to the side and proceed to the cabbage leaves. Cut off the hardest part from them and put them in boiling water with lemon juice so that the leaves become soft and do not break.

Step 4

We take out the cabbage from the boiling water and let the leaves cool down a bit so as not to burn our hands.

Step 5

Fill cabbage leaves with minced meat and gently fold. Do not forget that the rice in the minced meat will soften a little during the cooking process, so you do not need to wrap the cabbage leaves too tightly.

Step 6

Pour some oil into a saucepan with a thick bottom, make a kind of pillow from the remains of cabbage, on which we spread stuffed cabbage rolls. On each layer of cabbage rolls, we again spread the scraps of cabbage leaves.

Step 7

Pour water into a saucepan, but so that it does not completely cover the cabbage rolls, put on fire and bring to a boil. We reduce the heat and simmer the cabbage rolls for 2 hours. You can serve cabbage rolls with sour cream.
