Beer - a low-alcohol foamy drink with hop bitterness - people have been making since ancient times. The history of beer is quite rich. Those who were associated with this drink could be equated with the rulers, or they could be sentenced to death for the poor quality of the product.
Beer history
Historians believe that even in ancient Babylon ten thousand years ago, beer was brewed from barley cold and wheat. And the first beer laws were passed in Babylon - it was almost four thousand years ago. This is the origin of the history of beer.
Times were harsh: for example, if a brewer (and in ancient times beer was brewed exclusively by women) asked too much for beer, then she was fined. Or thrown into the water - such is the non-market method of containing prices. They fought for quality in much the same way: the one who sold bad beer or even a fake one had to be drowned in the same beer barrel or executed - to drink the same product to death. In England, one and a half thousand years ago, 19 sorts of beer were already produced, however, instead of hops, honey or cinnamon was used as flavoring additives.
Beer in Russia
In the 9th-12th centuries, brewing became widespread in Kievan Rus. The history of beer can be traced back to documents. From the found documents of that time it became known that beer was brewed from barley cold and hops - these ingredients are used to this day.
The word "beer" in Slavic speech is consonant with the verb "drink", but denotes a drink in general. In ancient times, taxes were paid with beer, so in the collection of Old Russian law "Russkaya Pravda" it is specified that the collector of payments is entitled to a bucket of malt drink per day.
Beer, onions and bread - these are the main food products in Ancient Russia. Beer and honey were also ritual drinks that were symbolically offered at joint feasts. Monks were special masters in brewing beer. Peter I, opening a window to Europe, did not forget to add a tap for beer - he ordered English brewers to St. Petersburg.
Now beer continues its history - beer is used to treat hangovers, and in the old days they treated diseases more seriously: in the 18th century - scurvy, in the twenties of the last century beer was used as a sedative.
