A salad that has just been removed from the garden will be much tastier and healthier than the one that has been lying for a couple of days. But many of us are forced to buy vegetables in stores, and even have to do it for the future. Therefore, you need to try to make every effort so that the salad retains its fresh appearance and useful qualities for as long as possible.
It is necessary
- - salad
- - water
- - kitchen napkins
- - Plastic container
Instructions
Step 1
Once you bring your salad home, take immediate steps to prolong its life. Cut off the base of the stalk by 2-3 mm to expose the pores in it, through which water can penetrate into the salad. Take a large, flat bowl, pour some water into it, lay the salad upside down, and you can leave it to stand at room temperature. The principle of operation is the same as that of flowers standing in a vase. With a good combination of circumstances, lettuce placed in water can retain its freshness for up to 5-7 days.
Step 2
But lettuce not only absorbs water, it also gives it out through the leaves. Cover the salad with plastic wrap to prevent moisture loss and wilting. Just do not need to pack anything hermetically - there is no need for this, otherwise the salad will suffocate and deteriorate.
Step 3
You can also store the salad in the refrigerator. Wrap it with paper tea towels soaked in water and place it on a shelf or vegetable compartment. For 3-4 days, the product will remain fresh.
Step 4
If there is not much space in the refrigerator, you can disassemble the lettuce head into leaves, tear or cut them into pieces of the required size, put them in a plastic container lined with a moistened napkin and cover with a lid. However, it is not recommended to store the salad for a long time in this way. After a day, it will start to lose freshness, but this method is perfect if you want to keep the salad for several hours during a picnic or for lunch at the office.
