For the storage of carrots to be successful, and the fruits not to deteriorate, it is important that the room in which they will be located. It must be dried and disinfected. Airing the room will not be superfluous.

It is optimal if the carrots are stored in a separate building (cellar, barn). However, many people live in apartment buildings and do not have such opportunities. In this case, it is worth packing the fruits in bags and placing them on a glazed balcony or freezer. In the latter case, grate the carrots on a coarse grater.

Effective ways to store carrots at home

Ripening carrots is a long process. However, during this period, the carrots not only do not deteriorate, but they get better. Therefore, the most effective way to store carrots at home is to place the fruit in a similar environment. It can be:

  • sand;
  • clay;
  • sawdust;
  • land from the beds.

The latter method is most often practiced by gardeners who have round-the-clock access to their products. The carrots are simply left in the ground over the winter until they are harvested. Although the method seems simple, it has its own nuances. Therefore, it is recommended only for those who are familiar with the peculiarities of carrot varieties, soil, climatic conditions.

Sand storage is a common way to store food. The laying procedure is as follows:

  1. Wet sand is poured into a wooden box in an even layer 5 cm thick.
  2. Root crops are stacked on top. They should not touch each other.
  3. The next layer of sand is poured on top.
  4. Carry out the operation until the entire box is full.

The same installation principle can be repeated with pine sawdust and clay. But in the latter case, the raw material must have the consistency of sour cream. Otherwise, the clay will not be able to completely cover the fruit.
