Mastic flowers are a popular way to decorate cakes. Tulips, roses, orchids can be made from malleable culinary materials, which are almost impossible to distinguish from real ones. In addition, you can create whole compositions of different colors.
How to make mastic
To decorate biscuit cakes, mastic is most often used. It is a profitable and convenient confectionery material based on powdered sugar, with which you can make various original decorations in the form of flowers and flower arrangements. Mastic can be purchased ready-made, or you can do it yourself.
There are two options for making mastic - from milk and from gelatin. To prepare the dairy version, you must take equal amounts of milk powder and powdered sugar. Then you need to add condensed milk in the same amount. Next, you need to mix everything until you get a consistency similar to plasticine. With the help of food coloring, you can give any color to your mastic.
Tulips on the cake
To make tulips, mastic is tinted with food dyes or natural juice (for example, beet juice) and rolled out, while sprinkling the layer with powdered sugar (the thickness of the layer should not exceed one millimeter). Then a small piece is taken from the layer, which needs to be given the shape of a petal. To do this, you will serve a few tablespoons. Cover the inside of the spoon with mastic, and remove excess along the edge contour. First dry the finished petals, then combine them into a bud on the cake itself. Thus, you can make a whole composition of tulips.
Orchids
Pastry mastic orchids are very similar to real flowers. To prepare such a flower from sweet mastic, templates are required. You can buy molds and use them to cut flower petals and leaves. If it is not possible to buy such molds, then they are easily made from dense material, for example, from cardboard. The cooking principle is the same as for tulips. Stick around the template or shape with mastic, remove the excess and form a flower on the surface of the cake.
Roses
Roll out the mastic in a thin layer. Next, you need to cut out the petals. How much depends on how lush the flower you want to get. Use a toothpick to wrap the edges of the petals for a more realistic look. Leave the petals to dry for a few minutes. Attach petal by petal to the base until you get a bud. You need to attach layer by layer at the connection point of the previous petals.
Mastic flowers look very realistic, just use a little imagination, and wonderful flower arrangements will surprise guests with their beauty.
