The homeland of hot peppers is South and Central America. It was there that the Indians actively used hot peppers as a spice. In Russia, they first learned about capsicum at the beginning of the 17th century. Initially, it was actively used in medicine and only after almost two centuries in cooking. Today the vegetable "with a twinkle" is grown in open ground, greenhouses and even on windowsills.
Pepper family parents
There are four main types of hot peppers: pubescent, Peruvian, Colombian and Mexican. By crossing these varieties, many others were obtained, which differ in sharpness, shape, color and growing conditions, allowing each gardener to choose the appropriate variety.
"Ukrainian Bitter", "Astrakhan" and "Ogonyok"
Choosing a "sharper" pepper, determine in advance in what conditions it will grow. The variety "Ukrainian Bitter" can fit on the windowsill, since it has a height of no more than 25 cm. Despite the fact that it has a very thin fruit pulp, it is distinguished by its sharpness.
If high yields are at the head of the choice, sow "Astrakhanskiy". Small smooth red fruits weigh up to 10 g, but this does not prevent them from taking a worthy position in the ranking of the hottest peppers. The pods are actively used in cooking and medicine, making tinctures for sciatica and abscesses.
The name of the Ogonyok variety speaks for itself. A good harvest can be obtained both in the open field and in the greenhouse. Fruits weighing from 30 to 45 grams have a pod shape and a bright saturated red color.
Oriental motives
The most famous all over the world is the "Cayenne" variety. A thermophilic plant, subject to proper care, can reach a height of 90 cm. Bright red fruits by the time of ripening gain weight in the range of 40-80 grams. Its popularity and prevalence is not accidental, the variety has a high content of vitamins A and C, has antioxidant properties, is able to improve appetite and digestion.
Variety "Alladin" is a bright representative of dwarf decorative peppers. On the bush, like a scattering of large beads, peppers of various colors can flaunt: yellow, purple, raspberry and cream. Such a multi-colored miracle can bear fruit for 5-7 years.
The "Chinese Fire" variety is used both fresh and for canning. The red and green fruits are easily recognizable by their proboscis shape. The taste qualities of the variety will be appreciated by lovers of "fiery" dishes.
The title "The most acute"
The Habanero variety can be rightly called the leader of the rating. In addition to its pungency, the variety is famous for its incredible yield. One bush is able to please the owner with more than a thousand fruits. Peppers can range in shade from orange to chocolate. Most often used for preservation and pickling.
