Instructions

Step 1

The simplest dish that can be cooked with salted herring is Russian Snack. For her, you need to boil potatoes in their uniforms, peel and cut into even circles. Also cut the herring, half a lemon, a couple of pickled cucumbers, hard cheese, ham and smoked breast or boiled meat into small thin slices. Then place all the ingredients in rows on a flat, wide plate in the following order: potatoes, herring, lemon, cucumber, ham, cheese and meat. You can decorate the dish with pickled onions, chopped rings and herbs.

Step 2

You can also make "caviar" from herring. Combine tomato juice and vegetable oil. Bring to a boil over moderate heat and reduce heat. Then add semolina in a thin stream and cook for 1 minute, stirring constantly. Cool the resulting "sauce". Peel the herring and remove all the bones. Pass through a meat grinder along with the onions and mix with the "sauce". Such caviar goes well with bran or rye bread.

Step 3

Another recipe is Chopped Herring with Nuts. A dish with seemingly incompatible products will surely be appreciated by gourmets. First, soak the herring in milk, then remove the bones. Hard boil the eggs, peel the apples and peel them. Pass the herring with onions, walnuts, apples and one egg through a meat grinder. Season the resulting mass with mayonnaise and mix well. Place the herring on a platter, garnish with chopped herbs and thinly sliced second egg wedges.

Step 4

Another interesting herring snack is cottage cheese. The herring must be soaked first so that it becomes soft. Then clean from skin and bones, cut into small pieces. Finely chop the onion and fry in vegetable oil until slightly golden brown. Mix sour cream with mustard, add cottage cheese and combine all ingredients with herring. Stir until smooth and place on a flat dish. You can decorate the appetizer with fresh herbs and tomato slices.

Step 5

By the way, the Norwegian salad will be suitable for the festive table. Peel the herring of skin and bones. Then grind. Cut the olives and eggs into thin rings, chop the green onion. Prepare the sauce. Combine mashed potatoes with mayonnaise and lemon juice. Now put the salad in layers in bowls or special small portioned salad bowls in the following sequence: sauce, a couple of circles of eggs, 3-4 slices of herring, sauce, a few rings of olives. Sprinkle with green onions and red caviar on top.
