After the watermelon, as you know, there are a lot of unnecessary crusts. It turns out that they are not so unnecessary. You can make wonderful jam from them.
It is necessary
- - watermelon peels - 1 kg;
- - sugar - 1, 2 kg;
- - soda - 1.5 teaspoon;
- - water - 9 glasses.
Instructions
Step 1
The first thing to do is to cut off the green layer from the watermelon rind, that is, the one that is the toughest.
Step 2
After the green layer is removed, it is necessary to cut the remaining pulp of the watermelon peels into cubes, each of which should be pierced with a wooden toothpick. Take a deep cup and fold the chopped pulp into it.
Step 3
Pour baking soda into a glass and fill it with hot water. Then pour this soda solution into a bowl with watermelon rinds and add another 5 glasses of water there, but only already cold. Leave the crusts in this state for 4 hours. After the time has passed, transfer them to a colander and rinse.
Step 4
Pour half of all the sugar into a saucepan and add 3 cups of water to it. Boil the syrup from the mixture. When the syrup is ready, add the sliced watermelon rinds to it. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce heat and cook for another 15 minutes. After the time has passed, remove the jam from the heat and do not touch it for 12 hours.
Step 5
After 12 hours have passed, the jam must be put back on the fire and the remaining sugar added to it. Bring the resulting mass to a boil, reduce heat and cook for another half hour. Place in jars and close tightly. The watermelon rind jam is ready!
