Despite the fact that everyone is used to calling them that way, "nuts" are actually not nuts, but the seeds of cedar pines, for example, Siberian cedar pine. The benefits of pine nuts are great: they are used for allergic diseases, atherosclerosis, immunodeficiency, etc. It is quite difficult to get to the valuable grain: the nut is located in a strong cone and covered with a hard shell. For a long time, people have invented special devices for cleaning pine nuts. Before directly removing the nut from the shell, you need to get it out of the cone. For this, a peeling machine is used if the work is done in small volumes, for example, at home or a pine crusher.

A peeling machine is a wooden device consisting of two parts - a fixed part and a grater, on which transverse notches are made 1.5-2 cm deep. The cone is placed on a stationary part, hit on it with a grater so that the cone opens up. Then it is placed between the working parts of the peeling machine and ground.
Step 3
Pine crushers are manual and mechanical. In them, the cones are crushed by rotating a drum with iron pins or nails located on it. The cones are clamped between the pins and the walls of the device, which leads to their crushing.

Now, after the nuts are removed from the cones, it remains to peel them from the shell.

In industries where pine nuts are peeled in large quantities, special devices are used, for example, a cone crusher. The nut is pre-dried, and then placed in an apparatus in which the shell is mechanically destroyed. The destruction mechanism is a housing in which a rotating shaft with an elastic coating and a frame with a working surface and a screw for adjusting the gap are fixed. Peeled kernels are sifted from the shell directly during peeling. There are also technologies in which the shell is destroyed, for example, under pressure.

If you need to peel a small amount of pine nuts at home, you can use simpler methods. For example, you can crush the shell with a garlic crusher or pliers, or chop with a small hammer. In the event that you don't have anything suitable at hand, you can simply gnaw a pine nut with your teeth. However, this method is only suitable for owners of extremely strong teeth.
