One of the most popular “fruity” ingredients in mixed drinks is the tropical citrus lime. Without it, it is impossible to prepare such popular cocktails as Margarita, Mojito, Daiquiri and many others.

A close relative of lemon, lime, however, differs in many ways from its larger counterpart. Lime has a thin greenish peel, rich aroma, not much reminiscent of lemon and absolutely unique taste. It is this taste that makes the lime fruit an indispensable ingredient in many salads and, of course, in cocktails.

Mojito

The most classic cocktail, loved, as they say, by Hemingway himself - the famous "Mojito" - cannot be prepared without lime. To prepare a cocktail, you need a fairly large number of components and accessories. But it's worth it. So, at the first stage, 10-12 mint leaves and 2 teaspoons of brown sugar must be placed in a tall cylindrical highball glass. Now mint and sugar should be milled with a mudler - a device that is a thin pestle for squeezing the juice of fruits and berries directly in the bowl in which the drink will be served. Madler can be replaced with a regular pestle or something similar.

The second stage begins by filling a glass of mint-sugar mixture with chopped people. It is necessary to fill the glass to the top. Now you need to pour 40 milliliters of light rum into the container, and then add soda to the full volume. The final touch: stick two straws into the glass and garnish the drink with a lime wedge and mint sprigs.

Margarita

Another famous cocktail, which would not have taken place if the nature of lime had not been invented - the unique, unimaginable, bright "Margarita". By the way, the cocktail is so loved and famous all over the world that a special glass was even invented for serving it - Margarita.

To prepare "Margarita", you need to take the glass of the same name and turn it upside down, dip its rim first in water and then in fine salt. Thus, a traditional decoration in the form of a rim of salt is formed on the edge of the glass.

Now you should take a shaker, add a little crushed ice, 20 milliliters of Cointreau orange liqueur, 35 milliliters of golden tequila, 15 milliliters of freshly squeezed lime juice. All components must be shaken vigorously several times. Now the finished cocktail can be poured through a strainer into a glass. If you don't have a strainer at hand, then you can use the small strainer available in any kitchen.

Daiquiri

The magnificent refreshing "Daiquiri" is prepared today in different ways and from different components. However, the classic recipe for the drink necessarily includes lime. To prepare a classic Cuban "Daiquiri", you need to fill a shaker with ice, then pour 45 milliliters of light rum, 20 milliliters of fresh lime juice and 15 milliliters of sugar syrup into it. Now the shaker should be shaken vigorously several times, then pour its contents through a strainer into a cocktail glass - a glass in the form of an inverted umbrella on a thin long stem.

Lime is one of the most popular cocktail ingredients. In addition to the above drinks, lime is a component of such famous cocktails as Cosmopolitan, Mai Tai, Kamikaze, which has not lost its popularity since the middle of the last century, and many others.
