Celery is a fragrant seasoning that can last for a long time if stored properly. And any hospitable hostess will be able to delight their loved ones with fresh herbs for a long time.
Wash greens before eating
Celery can be stored in the refrigerator for quite a long time: about six weeks. At the same time, neither the aroma nor the taste properties of celery will be affected. The greens need to be rinsed first, especially if purchased at a store. If the bundle is torn from its own garden, then it is enough to wipe it with a clean damp cloth. In both the first and second cases, dry pure celery on the table.
Where to store celery
These greens are well preserved in an ordinary glass jar, not tightly covered, therefore, after rinsing, the grass is placed there. Although a regular plastic bag with holes is quite suitable for the same purpose. Ventilation is important for greenery anyway. Next, the celery is placed in the refrigerator. If, for some reason, the greens began to wither, put them in a vase of water and, as soon as the leaves come to life, do all of the above.
Dry celery seasoning
When dried, celery lasts much longer: you can stretch the pleasure until the next harvest. How to dry celery properly? Take a large sheet of clean paper and spread the grass evenly on top of it. Then cover the resulting layer with a second sheet of paper. Leave the greens in this form for three weeks, or even a month, periodically watching the drying process and stirring the grass. Once the celery is dry, transfer it to a paper bag, dry and clean. This seasoning is especially good for soups.
Oh, frost, frost, freeze me
For lovers of fresh herbs, celery can be frozen in winter. After the first stage of washing and drying, the grass should be crushed, distributed in special trays for ice and, flooded with water, placed in the refrigerator. You will get celery ice, a cube of which is very easy and convenient to add to soups. If in winter you want to decorate the main dishes with celery, then place the whole bunch in a plastic container, close it tightly with a lid and send it to the freezer. It is important to remember that only fresh greens are suitable for freezing, and yellowed ones will deteriorate. In addition, celery, cut before flowering, retains its aroma for a long time even when frozen.
Behold at the root
Celery root is also used as a condiment. It is added to both the soup and the second. The rules before placing in the refrigerator are the same. The only thing to remember is that the shelf life of celery roots is short: two to three weeks.
