Sauerkraut has been revered and loved by the Russian people from time immemorial. In winter, it is a storehouse of vitamins, the content of which competes with overseas fruits. Many people use not only sauerkraut, but also prepare dishes from it. It also tastes great when stewed.

It is necessary

    • Option I:
    • sauerkraut - 1 kg;
    • onions - 2-3 onions;
    • carrots - 2 small carrots;
    • vegetable oil - 1/2 cup;
    • tomato paste - 2-3 tablespoons;
    • bay leaf to taste;
    • salt to taste;
    • sugar to taste.
    • Option II:
    • sauerkraut - 1 kg;
    • onions - 2 onions;
    • sweet apples - 3 pieces;
    • vegetable oil - 3 tablespoons;
    • nutmeg - to taste;
    • ground cloves - to taste;
    • coriander to taste.

Instructions

Step 1

Take sauerkraut, if it is too sour - rinse it with water. Put in a saucepan, pour 1 glass of water into it and put on fire. Simmer the cabbage in a covered saucepan until soft and transparent, 30-40 minutes.

Step 2

Finely chop the onion and carrot into strips. Pour vegetable oil into the pan and bring the onions on it until transparent, and do not fry the carrots until soft.

Step 3

Then add tomato paste to the skillet and simmer with onions and carrots for a few minutes. Mix vegetables with cabbage, add salt and sugar, if necessary. Place the bay leaf.

Step 4

Put it out together for another 10 minutes. The stewed sauerkraut is ready, it is an excellent side dish for meat dishes, it goes well with mashed potatoes. Sprinkle with fresh chopped herbs as you serve.

Step 5

Simmer finely chopped onion in vegetable oil. Add to it squeezed homemade sauerkraut (with carrots) and peeled apples grated on a coarse grater. Simmer all vegetables with a lid for 15 minutes.

Step 6

Add spices to taste to the vegetables, mix well and simmer for another 5 minutes. Such cabbage goes well with homemade sausages and mashed potatoes, it is also tasty as an independent dish.
