Avocado differs in that it finally ripens not on the tree, but in storage areas. This can happen both in warehouses and at home. Thus, the avocado you buy may have varying degrees of ripeness. The storage method will depend on this indicator.

Unripe avocados

If you bought an unripe, hard avocado, you will need to wait until it ripens. For proper storage of such a fruit, place it in a paper bag along with a banana and an apple and leave for several days indoors at room temperature (20 - 25 degrees). Do not expose the package to direct sunlight. Also, do not put the bag in the refrigerator, this will slow down the ripening process.

Storing unripe avocados along with apples and bananas speeds up the ripening process up to 2-3 days. This is due to the ethylene in the fruit. The paper bag in this case acts as a gas trap.

Unripe sliced avocados

If you cut an avocado and find it is not ripe, you need to create special storage conditions for it. Pour lime or lemon juice (white vinegar can be used) over both slices and fold them tightly together, then cover with a clear plastic bag and refrigerate. The ripening process can take several days, the period depends on the storage conditions and the level of ripeness at the time of storage.

Ripe avocados

If you have already purchased ripe avocados or the fruits are ripe in your home, they can be stored in the refrigerator for about 2-3 days, provided that the fruits are not chopped. Avocados cut into slices must be stored in sealed plastic containers, pre-watered with lime or lemon juice. This will slow down the process of their oxidation.

Frozen avocados

If you want to keep your avocado longer, you can put it in the freezer. Fresh avocados are preferable to taste, while frozen ones can be used, for example, to make various sauces. You can store this fruit in the freezer both as a whole, and by cutting it into slices or making mashed potatoes from it.

Avocado Dishes

Avocados can be used as an ingredient in many culinary recipes, which imposes some requirements on the way the corresponding dishes are stored. For example, one of the most famous of these dishes is guacamole - a mixture of mashed avocado, salt, various vegetables (most often tomatoes, peppers and onions) and herbs. To store such dishes, you need to fill them with an acidic product (for example, lemon juice), place them in an airtight container and send them to the refrigerator. Check the condition of the food in the container periodically. If it begins to acquire a brown color, you should not store it further, eat the avocado on the same day.
