Home-salted fragrant herring is a good choice for a festive and everyday menu. This fish may well become the basis for a salad or appetizer, or it can be served as an addition to fresh boiled potatoes.
It is necessary
- - fresh frozen herring - 5 pcs;
- - salt - 5 tablespoons;
- - black peppercorns -10 pcs;
- - bay leaves - 5 pcs;
- - water - 1 liter;
- - deep basin or bowl;
- - plate.
Instructions
Step 1
Thaw the herring and rinse it gently under running cool water. Take a deep basin and place the herring backs down in it. The fish must fit in one row. Cover the herring with a flat plate so that it does not float.
Step 2
Prepare the brine. Add salt, peppercorns and bay leaf to the water. Bring the mixture to a boil and then immediately remove from heat. Now wait for the brine to cool completely. Pour the resulting liquid over the herring. Leave the fish on the bottom shelf of the refrigerator for lightly salted fish for 36 hours, for regular salted fish for 48 hours.
Step 3
It is not recommended to store such herring in brine for a longer time. After the required time, remove the fish, gut it and cut it into small pieces. Place the salted herring in a plastic container and place in the freezer. If necessary, simply remove and thaw at room temperature.
