Not only in Moscow and St. Petersburg, avocado has become an obligatory part of decent cuisine, in the Russian provinces, establishments from the top row buy avocados in boxes and hastily put in order the menu - salad with avocado, burger with avocado, toast with avocado, omelet with avocado, guacamole …
When we say "avocado" we mean the fruit of a plant, which is also called avocado, and also has a second little-known name (see below); Avocado is of a middle genus, rich in macronutrients and vitamins, nutritious and was previously considered a nut.
Avocado has become a welcome guest in ordinary home cooking, many people willingly add it to a salad, because it combines equally well with both arugula (another gastronomic hit, whose popularity declined after its peak a few years ago), and with red fish, as well as with tomatoes. lemon juice, does not contradict "proper nutrition" and the desire to lose weight, while at the same time it is suitable for athletes during the period of weight gain. It wouldn't be unnecessary to risk calling it the perfect product.
However, less than two years ago, the latest trend was set by an Irish chef, when he made a call to boycott avocado as a product, to completely remove it from the menu, at the very least - to minimize its presence on the menu. The sensation was unexpectedly supported, and not ridiculed, and it turned out that the problem was long overdue, and the claims in this case not to the product itself (as mentioned above, it is almost perfect), but to what accompanies its production.
Mexico and Peru are the two largest producers of avocados. Pines once grew in Mexico - the very ones that Joseph Brodsky mentioned in the poem "Piazza Mattei":
Pines are Italian pines that grew in the state of Mexico where avocados are now produced. Over the past almost a quarter of a century, the biological diversity of flora has been disrupted, forests have become obsolete, leaving only industrial buildings and deciduous trees. The area suffers from drought because avocado production requires a huge amount of water, which is barbaric in light of the worldwide struggle to conserve non-renewable resources.
Moreover, there are cases when contract killings were committed for the sake of avocados, the threads of the investigation lead to local drug cartels. At least three avocado growers were shot and killed, it was proven that the murders were committed on the basis of "green gold". Everyone who buys an avocado from Mexico supports these events with money and stimulates development in the same vein.
Finally, transportation to Europe (and even more so to Russia) is associated with the use of agricultural chemicals, which is unthinkable for countries that pay so much attention to the seasonality of the product and its maximum freshness and naturalness. Moreover, for large volumes of avocados, wood is needed, because they are transported in wooden boxes, and this is again deforestation.
Thus, the popularity of avocados is a big question, at least - until the trend of conscious consumption goes out of style.
The second, little-known name for the avocado tree is American Perseus.
