Honey is a real storehouse of vitamins and nutrients. The beneficial properties of this natural and environmentally friendly product have been known for a long time. It helps to strengthen the immune system, helping the body to cope with various infections and diseases. However, to get the most out of honey, it must be stored properly.
Instructions
Step 1
Avoid using copper, iron and plastic containers for storing honey. In the first two, it can oxidize due to the presence of metals such as copper, zinc or lead. Well, in the latter, it will be sugared much earlier, and with prolonged storage it can generally become hazardous to health, especially if you keep it in direct sunlight and at high temperatures.
Step 2
Use glassware (preferably dark), ceramic or natural wood to store honey. In the latter case, it is better to give preference to barrels made of beech, cedar, plane tree, linden or birch. The product in such a container will not lose nutrients for a long time, especially if it is hermetically closed - this is another condition for the proper storage of honey. Cookware made from these materials will also help preserve the liquid consistency of the product for a longer period.
Step 3
Keep honey away from direct sunlight, especially if it is stored in glass containers - bright light has a destructive effect on such a product. It is best to put it in a dark, cool closet or basement. The ideal temperature for long-term storage of honey varies from 0 to + 10 ° C. At higher or lower levels, the product slowly begins to lose its characteristic aroma, color and healing properties. However, for a short time, it is able to withstand temperatures down to -20 ° C. It is desirable that the humidity in the place where honey is stored is 60-80%.
Step 4
Keep honey away from products with a pronounced aroma, as it absorbs odors very well, especially if it is contained in a leaky container. In no case should it be stored next to spices, and in the refrigerator with pickles. Naturally, it should be kept away from any chemicals as well.
Step 5
Store honey combs in glass, wood or ceramic clean dishes. Cut the honeycomb into small pieces, put it in a container, close it tightly and put it in a dark cabinet or in the refrigerator on the top shelf.
Step 6
Only remove the honey from the jar with a clean, dry spoon, preferably a ceramic or wooden spoon. Although mold never grows in such a product, the ingress of moisture or other substances can speed up the sugaring process.
Step 7
Eat crystallized honey without fear, since sugar is a natural process of changing this product, which does not affect its beneficial properties in any way. For ease of use in baking, it can be melted in a water bath without boiling. But it is better to use the melted product right away.
