The legendary herring appetizer under a fur coat consists of fish fillets and boiled vegetables seasoned with mayonnaise sauce. The dish, although high-calorie, is very tasty. Many housewives have their own recipe. Different layer sequences are used, and new ingredients are added: fresh apples, herbs, cheese, and so on.
Classic fur coat
For the salad, take large herring, beets, carrots, potatoes, onions, eggs and mayonnaise.
Rinse the beets, carrots, potatoes and cook without peeling. Eggs can be boiled with vegetables or separately.
While the boiled vegetables are cooling, you can prepare fish and onions for the salad.
Remove the skin from the herring and carefully select all the seeds. Cut the fillet into medium cubes.
Peel and chop the onion in half rings. Then pour over boiling water and squeeze out a little.
Lightly dampen the bottom of the mold with water and spread the herring in an even layer. Place scalded onions on top of the fish and cover with good mayonnaise. Peel potatoes and chop into small cubes. Place on top of the onion and make a fine mayonnaise mesh.
Grate the carrots and beets separately on a coarse grater. Spread the layer of carrots first, then the beets. Cover the beetroot layer generously with mayonnaise.
Decorate the salad with boiled egg yolks, beetroot roses or sprigs of herbs.
Let the salad soak a little. Cover the top with a lid or cling film, and place in the refrigerator for a while.
Roll
Ingredients: one medium herring, onions, boiled carrots, potatoes, beets and eggs, mayonnaise and salt.
Fillet the herring, remove the bones and cut into cubes. Next, chop the onions and mix with the herring. Let the vegetables cool well, then peel them and grate. Peel and grate the eggs as well.
Place the beetroot rectangle on plastic wrap. Season with salt, cover with a bag and apply a little pressure to seal. Brush with mayonnaise. Then spread the layer of carrots so that it is less than the layer of beets around the perimeter. Season with salt and thicken like a layer of beetroot, and coat with mayonnaise.
Spread grated potatoes and an egg on the carrots. Seal and coat each layer with mayonnaise. Place the herring and onions in the center. Each layer should be smaller than the previous one.
Roll all the collected layers into a roll. Press lightly on the edges and refrigerate for a few hours.
Peel off the plastic wrap and transfer to a serving dish before serving.
Fur coat in pita bread
Ingredients:
pita bread - 3 pieces;
boiled beets and carrots;
eggs - 3 pieces;
herring fillet;
mayonnaise, herbs and leeks.
Take three pita bread and cut into two equal parts. Grate beets and eggs on a coarse grater and carrots on a fine grater. Coat each sheet of pita bread well with mayonnaise. Place the first sheet of pita bread on the foil and spread the beets. Top with a second sheet, greased with mayonnaise, and place the carrots on top of it. On the third sheet are eggs.
Roll gently and wrap in foil. In the same way, make a second roll and put in the refrigerator for 30 minutes.
Cut the fish fillets and cut into thin slices. Chop the onion into rings.
Once the roll has cooled, cut it into pieces. Lay the onion rings and herring on top. Garnish with parsley or other herbs if desired.
