"Herring under a fur coat" in the form of a roll

Cooking this version of the popular salad will take a little longer than usual and will require some care, but the result will be worth it.

For cooking you will need:

- 4 beets;

- 3 carrots;

- 3 potatoes;

- 2 eggs;

- 2 herring fillets;

- mayonnaise.

First of all, you need to prepare the ingredients for the roll. To do this, boil the vegetables until tender. Hard boil the eggs. Then cool and clean everything. After that, grate all the ingredients on a fine grater. Beets and carrots must be squeezed out of excess liquid, otherwise the roll will not keep its shape. Cut the fish fillet into small slices.

Having prepared all the components, you can start assembling the roll. For convenience, place a large cutting board on the table and cover it with cling film. Spread the beets in the first layer. Cover it with a layer of film on top and tamp it lightly with your hands, the same will need to be repeated with each layer of the roll. Remove the polyethylene, salt the beets and put a layer of carrots on top of it, it should be slightly smaller than the previous one. Keep in mind that each subsequent layer should be slightly smaller in width. Seal the carrots, salt and coat with mayonnaise.

The next layer will be potatoes, also tightly packed and smeared with mayonnaise, then eggs and a layer of mayonnaise. The final touch is pieces of herring, laid in the center, if desired, you can add onions to them.

To roll up the roll, roll up one half of it, remove the film and wrap the other part overlapping it. Wrap the prepared salad in foil and lightly squeeze it with your hands; it should lie in the refrigerator for several hours. Such cakes will look very original on any table and, in addition, they will add a little variety to this salad that has become familiar for a long time. You can make two types of them, using different ingredients for the layers.

You will need:

- fatty and slightly salted herring 400 g;

- 4 medium potatoes;

- 2 small carrots;

- small beets;

- 300 g of champignons;

- 2 onions;

- 4 eggs;

- 2 apples;

- ground coriander;

- mayonnaise.

First you need to prepare all the necessary ingredients for the snack. Peel the herring from bones and skins, take it apart into pieces. Boil vegetables and eggs, and it is better to cook beets and carrots separately to keep the color bright. Cool everything and peel.

Then you need to chop the onion, chop the mushrooms finely and fry them together until tender. Mashed potatoes, season with salt, pepper, coriander and mayonnaise. Grate the beets, carrots and apple on a coarse grater. Mash the eggs well with a fork and mix with 2 tablespoons of mayonnaise. Each of the ingredients should be in a separate bowl.

Now you can start forming the cakes. To do this, you need a form with sides. Place the mashed potatoes in it and flatten. Then divide the resulting layer into separate cakes, their size and shape can be very diverse. Transfer each piece carefully to a platter. Put grated apples on half of the resulting cakes, and mushrooms on the other. Top with a layer of fish and a layer of eggs dressed with mayonnaise. After that, put beets on those cakes where there was a layer of apples, and carrots on those where there were mushrooms. It remains only to decorate the original "Herring under a fur coat" with waves of mayonnaise, olives and herbs.
