Some gardeners have gradually begun to grow into the cultivation of a tropical vegetable called "sweet potato", which is somewhat similar to our potatoes. And despite the fact that this process is long and painstaking, the Russians are persistently experimenting and far from unsuccessful. What is the interest in sweet potato based on?
And there is no secret here. Everyone who intends to maintain their health for a long time is well aware that sweet potatoes are considered one of the most useful plants in the world. With a low calorie content and an ideal glycemic index, it contains a maximum of vitamins, delicate fiber, micro and macro elements. Studies have shown that the carbohydrates and proteins of sweet potatoes are absorbed many times better than from the usual potatoes.
In cooking, you can use absolutely all parts of the plant, which is a liana that can grow up to 5 meters: stem, leaves, flowers, tubers. The size of the latter depends on the growing conditions. At +10 degrees, the sweet potato can stop growing altogether, let alone start bearing. And in tropical climates, tubers can reach simply gigantic sizes: 7-10 kg.
The ground part is added to salads, pre-soaked to eliminate bitterness, and the tubers are good in any form: raw, boiled, baked, fried in oil. True, they cook very quickly and without a peel can turn into a shapeless slimy mass. There are known varieties of both fodder and vegetables and desserts. Depending on this, sweet potato tastes like potatoes, pumpkin, or sweet melon.
The content of nutrients also depends on belonging to a particular variety, which differ not only in shape (usually oblong), but also in color: white, cream, yellow, orange, pink, dark purple. The properties of sweet potato useful for the body can be characterized as follows:
- has anti-inflammatory, antidiabetic, regenerating, energizing properties;
- prevents the development of diseases of the cardiovascular system;
- regulates water balance, pressure, cholesterol levels;
- prevents the development of malignant tumors;
- normalizes hormonal balance during menopause.
Bodybuilding athletes prefer sweet potatoes as a muscle building vehicle. This fruit helps to lose weight, recover from stress, and solve the problem with stool. It perfectly fights free radicals and improves the condition of the skin. It is a pity that in the climatic conditions of Russia, even having received the sweet potato harvest, it is very difficult to preserve it throughout the winter.
