Roll with poppy seeds is one of the most famous dishes of Ukrainian cuisine, beloved by all the peoples of the former USSR and not only. In any store in Ukraine today you can buy a roll of yeast dough with poppy seeds and its taste will be almost like homemade. But it's better to make a poppy seed roll at home according to your grandmother's recipe.

It is necessary

    • 1) 50 g fresh pressed yeast;
    • 2) 1, 5 glasses of milk;
    • 3) 6 eggs;
    • 4) 2 glasses of sugar;
    • 5) 0.5 teaspoon of salt;
    • 6) 4 tablespoons of sour cream;
    • 7) 4 tablespoons of vegetable oil;
    • 8) about 1 kg of flour;
    • 9) 300 g of poppy seeds.

Instructions

Step 1

Prepare a dough: crush 50 g of yeast into a bowl and sprinkle it with a little sugar - they will spread, pour 0.5 cups of warm milk into it, add flour and knead the dough to the thickness of sour cream. Place the dough in a warm place to rise.

Step 2

Sift the flour into another bowl and make a funnel in it. Throw a pinch of salt into it, add 1 glass of sugar, beat in 5 eggs, put 4 tablespoons of sour cream, 4 tablespoons of sunflower oil. Then pour in the dough and 1 glass of hot milk. Knead the dough steeply - add flour until the dough stops sticking to your hands. Set it to come up twice (after the first time, wrap it up and let it rise a second time).

Step 3

While the dough is coming up, prepare the poppy filling. To do this, rinse the poppy with hot water, then cover with water and bring to a boil. Drain the water and let the poppy cool. After cooling, turn it in a meat grinder twice and mix well with 1 cup of sugar until you get a viscous mass like jam.

Step 4

Roll the finished dough into a layer about 1 cm thick and spread the poppy filling evenly on it. Wrap the roll and place seam side down on a baking sheet. Let it stand for 10-15 minutes to rise a little.

Step 5

Brush the roll on top with an egg, beaten with 1 teaspoon of sugar and 1 teaspoon of sunflower oil. Put it in the oven for 30-40 minutes at 180 degrees, until a beautiful brown shiny crust forms on top.
