Mackerel is an inexpensive, but very healthy fish, from which you can prepare a lot of different dishes. But at the same time, it is somewhat capricious and does not always turn out juicy and tender. But if you bake it in foil, then it will certainly delight you, because this cooking method is considered a win-win. The foil will allow the mackerel to retain all the juice inside, and this will certainly affect the taste of the food in the best way. Even a novice hostess can cope with this.

It is necessary

  • - mackerel - 1 carcass (you can take frozen);
  • - large onions - 1 pc.;
  • - ground black pepper - 1 tsp;
  • - red hot pepper - 3 pinches (optional);
  • - salt - 1 tsp;
  • - sunflower oil - 1 tbsp. l.;
  • - lemon - 1 pc. (for filing);
  • - foil;
  • - baking sheet or ovenproof dish.

Instructions

Step 1

To begin with, cut off the tail and head of the fish, and then clean the abdomen from the entrails. After that, the mackerel must be thoroughly rinsed in tap water and dried with paper towels. If the fish is frozen, then, as a rule, it does not require preliminary cleaning. You just need to defrost it at room temperature.

Step 2

In a small bowl, combine ground black pepper with salt and rub the carcass inside and out with the resulting mixture.

Step 3

Then take a sheet of foil, brush it with sunflower oil and lay the fish. Peel the onions and chop them into thin half rings. After that, place half of the onion in the belly, and half evenly distribute on top of the fish. If you like spiciness, then sprinkle the onion with 2-3 pinches of red hot pepper.

Step 4

Now wrap the edges of the foil so that the seam is on top - the workpiece must be airtight and have no gaps. After all, the main task in this dish is to preserve the juiciness of the fish, and this will be possible only if the juice remains inside and does not leak out. For safety reasons, you can wrap the mackerel with a double layer of foil. Then transfer to a baking sheet or ovenproof dish.

Step 5

Turn on the oven and set the temperature to 200 degrees. When it is warm enough, send the baking sheet with the preparation to bake for 40 minutes. When the time is up, gently unfold the foil along the top of the seam and cook for another 10 minutes until a delicious golden brown crust forms on the fish.

Step 6

Before serving the mackerel on the table, remove the foil or simply transfer the fish to a dish, be sure to water it with the resulting juice. If desired, you can spread lemon, cut into circles, around it, and sprinkle with fresh chopped parsley or cilantro.
