It is necessary

  • Salted herring - 2 pieces;
  • Red or onions - 1 piece of small size;
  • Beets - 2 pieces of medium size;
  • Potatoes - 4 pieces of medium size;
  • Carrots - 2 pieces of medium size;
  • Chicken egg - 5 pieces;
  • Mayonnaise - 300 grams.

Instructions

Step 1

If you are using whole fish, you must gut, peel, remove bones, and cut the fillets into small pieces. Boil beets, potatoes and carrots without peeling and cool. Boil eggs and cool. Instead of using store-bought mayonnaise, make homemade. Having done all of the above in advance, you will prepare the salad itself in less than an hour.

Step 2

Peel chilled potatoes and grate on a coarse grater. Take a salad dish and in the first layer lay out half of the grated potatoes, tamp them well, and evenly brush on top with a thin layer of mayonnaise.

Step 3

Cut the onion into small cubes. Use red sweet onions without further processing. After slicing, onions can be poured over with boiling water, so that the excess bitterness is gone.

Mix chopped onions with pre-chopped herring fillets and place in a second layer on a layer of potatoes.

Step 4

Place the remaining half of the grated potatoes on top of the herring and onion layer. Tamp the potatoes well and brush with an even thin layer of mayonnaise.

Step 5

Peel chilled boiled carrots and grate them on a coarse grater. Put the whole carrots on a layer of potatoes and tamp well. Spread evenly on top with a thin layer of mayonnaise.

Step 6

Peel the chilled boiled eggs and chop finely, setting aside a couple of yolks to decorate the salad. Put the chopped eggs on a layer of carrots. It is not necessary to tamp and grease this layer with mayonnaise.

Step 7

Peel and grate chilled boiled beets. Add 2-4 tablespoons of mayonnaise to the grated beets and mix well. You can add a little salt to taste. Put the beetroot-mayonnaise mixture on top of a layer of eggs, and tamp well with a spoon.

Step 8

Take the set yolks from the boiled eggs and grate them on a fine grater over the last beet-mayonnaise layer.

Put the prepared salad in the refrigerator overnight or at least for a few hours. A well-soaked mayonnaise and chilled salad will taste much better.
