Everyone has probably tried these snacks: rustic potatoes (potato slices baked with spices) and onion rings (deep-fried onion rings in dough). They are very popular in various fast food cafes, but they are not difficult to prepare at home.
Onion rings
Ingredients:
- 3 large onions;
- 150 g flour;
- 1 egg;
- 330 ml of beer;
- 1 glass and 1 tbsp. a spoonful of sunflower oil;
- salt.
Preparation:
1. Thoroughly wash the shell of the egg, then gently separate it into yolk and white. Toss in the yolk, sifted wheat flour, 1 tablespoon of sunflower oil, and a pinch of fine salt. While stirring, gently pour in the beer, shake with a whisk until the dough is uniform and thick enough.
2. In a separate, clean, fat-free container, beat the egg white until lather and stir into the dough. Peel the onion and cut into even rings of medium thickness. Dip the rings in the dough and fry in 1 cup hot sunflower oil until golden brown. Make sure that the onion rings do not stick to each other during frying, separate them with a spatula.
Tip: it is better to serve onion rings hot with some kind of sauce: cheese, tomato or sour cream
Country style potatoes
Ingredients:
- 10 young potatoes;
- 1 teaspoon each ground turmeric, curry, sweet paprika, coriander, marjoram and a mixture of peppers;
- 8 tbsp. tablespoons of olive oil;
- salt, oil for greasing the baking sheet.
Preparation:
1. Wash the potatoes with a brush, do not peel the skins. Let it dry or dry it with paper towels. Cut each tuber into several crescent-shaped slices. Mix all the spices in a bowl.
2. Stir in olive oil and a couple of teaspoons of spices. Grease a baking sheet with vegetable oil. Dip all potato wedges in olive oil, and then sprinkle generously with the rest of the spices.
3. Spread the potatoes, cut side up on the baking sheet. Preheat the oven to 200 ° C, place a baking sheet there for 30-40 minutes until the potatoes are cooked. Serve warm with tomato or cheese sauce.
Sour cream sauce with herbs
Ingredients:
- 1 cup sour cream 15% fat;
- 1 small bunch of fresh mint;
- 1 small bunch of fresh basil
- 2 cloves of garlic;
- salt, freshly ground black pepper.
Preparation:
1. Rinse the herbs well, shake off any drops, place the mint and basil on paper towels or napkins and let dry. In the bowl of a food processor or hand blender, place the sour cream, peeled and halved garlic (remove the green center), and herbs.
2. Whisk the ingredients until a smooth sauce is obtained. Season with salt and freshly ground pepper to taste and stir with a spoon. Serve the sauce with the vegetable appetizers. In addition, it goes well with meat and poultry dishes.
Cheese sauce
Ingredients:
- 1 glass of sour cream;
- 1/2 cup finely grated Parmesan cheese
- 2 cloves of garlic;
- 2 tbsp. tablespoons of Dijon mustard;
- 1 tbsp. tablespoons of whole mustard seeds;
- 1 teaspoon of mustard powder;
- salt, freshly ground black pepper.
Preparation:
1. Peel the garlic, cut it in half and take out the green core - you can throw it away. In a deep bowl, place sour cream, parmesan cheese, add all the mustard, including the grains.
2. Pass the garlic cloves through a press or chop very finely with a knife. Add to the rest of the ingredients and beat well with a blender or whisk until smooth. Before serving, keep the bowl of sauce in the refrigerator, covered with a lid.
