- For batter:
- - 50 g flour
- - 4 tablespoons soy sauce of your choice (you can choose both sweet and salty sauce)
- - 100 ml of sparkling water (it is advisable to choose neutral waters such as "Citro", "Bell" or "Buratino")
- - vegetable or olive oil for deep fat
- For breading, you need the following set of spices:
- - 1/2 tsp dried thyme
- - 1/2 tsp paprika
- - 1/4 tsp dried oregano
- - hot cayenne pepper to taste
Instructions
Step 1
We take the onion and cut off a small piece from above, no more than 1 cm. Peel the onion without touching the root. Turn the bulb over with a cut down and carefully make cuts with a knife from top to bottom, not reaching about a centimeter to the root of the bulb. Then we make four cuts at 90 degrees to each other. Carefully continue to make cuts until you get 16 even segments. Turn the bulb over and gently spread the petals of the future onion flower with your fingers. Transfer the onion to a bowl and fill it with cold water. Let's leave it for 15 minutes, while we ourselves will do the batter.
Step 2
Mix flour and spices in a plate, and soda water in another plate with soy sauce added to it. We take the onion out of cold water, put it first in a plate of flour. It is important to thoroughly sprinkle flour on all sides of the bulb so that some of the flour gets inside the flower. Shake off excess flour.
Step 3
Then water the onion well with batter so that it falls between all the petals. We put the flower on a slotted spoon to stack the excess batter. Also, using a slotted spoon, carefully lower the resulting onion flower cut down into boiling oil. Fry for 5-7 minutes, then another 7 minutes on the other side.
Step 4
As a result, the onion should be golden brown and crispy. We spread the onion, cut down on the paper, so that the glass has excess oil. Then place our flowers, tops up, on a serving plate and sprinkle with salt. A beautiful, tasty and unusual dish is ready!
