Instructions

Step 1

Onion sets are harvested at the end of August when the tops turn yellow. Having collected the onion sets, the first thing to do is to sort it out, remove rotten bulbs or sprouted ones.

Step 2

Leave the onions and tops to dry in the sun. After that, the dried leaves are carefully cut off.

Step 3

Onions need to be dried for three weeks using heating devices at different temperatures. Dry the onions at 20 degrees for the first week. The second is 30 degrees. The third is 35 degrees. Such a thorough drying will protect the onion sets from diseases and decay.

Step 4

Sort the onions by size in different boxes, wrap them in newspaper or canvas bags.

Step 5

Store in a cool, dark place at a temperature of 16-18 degrees.

Step 6

Sort onion sets once a month. Throw away dry or rotten bulbs. With proper storage, the bow will be perfectly preserved and will not shoot the arrow in the spring.

Step 7

If the onion sets are less than one centimeter in diameter, it will be quite difficult to keep them. But it overwinters very well in the soil and will give early shoots in the spring. Such small onions can be stored in an unheated room at temperatures from 0 to +5 degrees and an air humidity of 85%. With this storage, losses will be minimal.

Step 8

A violation of the temperature regime can lead to early shooting of the bulbs. It is good to store onion sets in the refrigerator at a temperature of 1-3 degrees. With this storage, before planting, the onion must be warmed up at a temperature of 20-25 degrees for 20 days.
