One of the most popular salads - Caesar salad - has a delicate peculiar taste and combines healthy and beautiful ingredients. There are several variations of this famous dish.
Classic: Caesar salad
Legend has it that one day the chef Caesar Cardini ran out of all the staples just when a large and noisy company of Hollywood filmmakers raided the restaurant where he worked. And then the talented chef made a salad from what was literally at hand, namely:
- romaine lettuce - 400 g;
- white bread - 100 g;
- young garlic - 1 pc.;
- olive oil - 50 g;
- chicken egg - 1 pc.;
- lemon - 1 pc.;
- Worcestershire sauce - a few drops;
- grated parmesan - 2 tablespoons;
- salt - to taste;
- freshly ground black pepper - to taste.
For the classic Caesar, gently rinse the lettuce leaves, pat dry with a paper towel and refrigerate. To make garlic croutons (croutons), take white bread (baguette), cut into small cubes and dry in the oven at 180 ° C for 10 minutes. Remember to stir the croutons in the oven a couple of times. Then, peel the garlic, crush and rub with salt. Place the garlic in a frying pan, add a tablespoon of olive oil and heat over low heat, then add the crackers to the pan and keep on the fire for a couple of minutes.
Stick a raw chicken egg from the blunt end and keep it in slightly boiling water for one minute. Rub a salad bowl with garlic for flavor and put the herbs on it, then drizzle a little with olive oil and move everything. Add the seasoning and juice of one lemon and drizzle with Worcester sauce a couple of times. Stir everything again, then break the egg and pour the contents over the salad, stir, cover the salad with grated cheese and add the garlic croutons.
Variation: Caesar salad with chicken
Today, Caesar salad is rarely prepared using the classic recipe: despite its excellent taste, many people prefer to add meat or even seafood to this dish. Perhaps the most popular and well-known type of Caesar salad is with chicken. Ideally, such a salad should be seasoned with Caesar sauce, but most people prefer to use mayonnaise at home.
- chicken fillet - 200 g;
- lettuce leaves - 20 pcs.;
- cherry tomatoes - 5 pcs.;
- white bread - 200 g;
- hard cheese - 50 g;
- garlic - 2 pcs.;
- vegetable oil - 4 tablespoons;
- mayonnaise - to taste;
- salt to taste.
Soak lettuce leaves in cold water for one hour until crisp and fresh. Use the white bread to make croutons by drying the baguette slices in the oven. Pour oil into a deep skillet, fry the peeled and minced garlic, then add the croutons. To prevent them from becoming greasy, place them on a paper towel after toasting. You can boil the chicken fillet or fry until tender in vegetable oil and cut into thin slices.
Place the lettuce leaves that have been torn by hand into the salad bowl. Grate hard cheese, cut cherry tomatoes in half or in quarters. All salad ingredients are mixed in a bowl and immediately served. It is best to serve mayonnaise separately so that everyone can season the salad to taste.
Variation: Caesar salad with shrimps
Seafood lovers prefer Caesar salad with shrimps. The list of ingredients is the same as the previous one, however, the chicken meat is replaced by shrimp to taste. When preparing the salad, defrost the shrimp and fry in butter and garlic. When dressing the salad, be sure to use the juice of half a lemon - this will add a noble flavor to the shrimp.
There is also a Caesar salad with boiled shrimps, quail eggs, smoked chicken … There are many options - for every taste.
