Dom Perignon today is not only a well-known brand of sparkling wines. This is, first of all, a sign of luxury and prosperity. The famous champagne, created according to the unique recipes of the French abbot, amazes with its exquisite taste and aroma.
Dom Perignon is an elite champagne that has become a legend among sparkling wines. Its presence on the table is a sign of wealth, luxury and belonging to the “cream” of society. The very first bottle of champagne was introduced in 1921, but the name of the brand is associated with earlier events.
The creator of the drink was the economist of the Abbey of Hauteville - Pierre Perignon. Despite his position, he was a fairly respected person and enjoyed a well-deserved prestige. The way he dealt with the winemaking process, from vineyards to bottling, was worthy of what the average economist would call a gentleman.
The Great French Revolution affected the notorious abbey, and all of Pierre's property was confiscated by the authorities, and the vineyards were bought by the Moët & Chandon company. Many years later, Pierre Perignon's recipes became a source of inspiration for the creators of elite champagne. And as a sign of respect to the economical winemaker, the sparkling drink began to bear his name.
Explosive Perignon Wine
In fact, Pierre was not the discoverer of the sparkling drink, because such a wine had been produced before. However, Perignon was able to achieve significant results in taming the explosive nature of the drink and creating the perfect champagne recipe.
In order to get really tasty champagne, the abbot-economy mixed a wide variety of grape varieties, and received an amazing drink with an original taste. Perignon came up with the idea of bottling sparkling wine, rather than storing it in barrels that constantly burst under the pressure of champagne.
How a legend is born
For some time, the fate of a well-known brand was not quite ideal, and this was associated with two factors:
the beginning of the Great Depression;
the introduction of "Prohibition" America.
The first batch of Dom Pérignon Prestige Cuvee champagne was presented to the public in 1921. However, it did not appear on sale until 15 years later. In the Old World, he was introduced to the drink by the British. And only a year later, more than a hundred boxes of this champagne went to the public court overseas. It was then that the decision was finally made to start the production of the drink on an industrial scale and on a fixed basis.
In the difficult post-war period, this was a serious and truly risky decision. Despite the growing tensions in the field of politics and the ban on the sale of alcohol, Robert-Jean de Vogue was convinced that wealthy people would always pay a high price for elite alcohol. And that champagne Dom Perignon was worthy to be called the best, no one doubted. Therefore, it is not at all surprising that the drink has become a brand, and the manufacturing company has received worldwide recognition.
