Starch is a carbohydrate found in potatoes, rice, wheat, corn, and other grains. You may need to convert the starch to sugar if you intend to brew the beer yourself, as sugar is converted to alcohol during the fermentation process. Wheat and corn are most commonly used to convert starch into sugar.
1. Grind wheat or corn grains in a grinder.
2. Pour the ground grain into a cooking dish and add 2 parts water to it.
3. Heat the mixture to about 65-70 ° C. Maintain the mixture at this temperature for about 2 hours. During this time, enzymes in the grain convert the starch into sugar.
4. Add some of the ground grain and set aside.
5. Add a drop of iodine to the mixture.
6. See if the mixture has changed its color. If the iodine lightens or turns yellow, all the starch has turned into sugar. If it remains dark, you need to keep the mixture at the above temperature for some more time.
