Stores sell frozen Mexican and Hawaiian mixes, popular vegetable mixes. If you grow vegetables in your summer cottage or garden, you can prepare vegetable mixtures yourself. Home freezing allows you to have almost fresh vegetables on the table all year round.
How to make frozen Mexican mix
The composition of the Mexican mix includes:
- green pea;
- corn;
- green beans;
- carrot;
- Bell pepper;
- onion.
All products are taken in equal parts, for example, 200 g each.
Rinse the vegetables thoroughly and air dry. Cook the corn and separate the corn from the cob with a sharp knife. For beans, cut off the ends on both sides and cut them into 3-4 cm pieces. For peppers, remove the seeds and cut into cubes. Peel the carrots and onions and also cut into cubes. Since peas ripen earlier, use frozen ones.
Put the prepared vegetables in a container, mix, spread in a thin layer on a sheet and send to the freezer for several hours. The temperature should be as low as possible so that the mixture freezes quickly and the beneficial substances are preserved in the vegetables. Then fold the Mexican mixture into freezer bags and deep freeze.
How to Freeze Hawaiian Mix
The main ingredient in the Hawaiian blend is rice. It is mixed with various vegetables: corn, zucchini, bell peppers, carrots, onions. Boil parboiled rice (1 cup) and discard in a colander. Let the water drain and dry a little. Carrots (2 pcs.), Onions (1 head), young zucchini (1 pc.), Pepper (5 pcs.) Peel and cut into cubes. Boil the corn (2 ears) and dry.
Freeze all ingredients separately in one layer on a baking sheet. Then combine them, divide the mixture into bags and place in the freezer. In winter, a vegetable mixture will help out when there is no time for cooking. To prepare the frozen mixture, it is enough to put the vegetables from the bag into the pan, add oil and fry. Or you can cook a delicious vegetable soup or make a side dish for meat.
