More than two hundred years have passed since the creation of the first pizza. During this time, the rich imagination of bakers has led to the emergence of several hundred varieties of this dish. Pizzas differ in shape, preparation method, dough thickness and, of course, filling.
Differences in shape
Pizza can be open or closed. Classic pizza looks like a layer of dough with the filling on top. This is an open version of the dish. A closed pizza is more like a pie.
Pizza can be made on thin crust. Real masters roll out the dough with a rolling pin and spin it in the air. The cake becomes thin and soft. Flour lovers will prefer pizza with thick dough. It contains the same ingredients as the first, but differs in the splendor of the cake.
The shape of the pizza depends on the imagination of its manufacturer. Round pizza is considered a classic; rectangular pizza is most often prepared at home. And for Valentine's Day, you can bake a heart-shaped pizza.
Variety of fillings
The most popular among Italians is the Margarita pizza. This is the very first recipe for the dish, invented by a baker in Naples back in 1889. Since that time, the filling of "Margarita" has not changed in any way. It still consists of tomatoes, mozzarella cheese and basil.
Pizza "Marinara" got its name from the fishermen who ate it for breakfast. Tomatoes, anchovies, capers, olives and herbs are used as the filling. Pizza "Bianca" is distinguished by the sauce with which the flatbread is smeared. Instead of traditional tomato paste, it contains sour cream or heavy cream.
Pizza can be meat, fish, vegetable, mushroom. Hawaiian pizza is made with chicken or ham and pineapple. Diabola pizza contains hot pepperoni. Several varieties of this product are used in the Four Cheese pizza.
The Four Seasons pizza deserves special attention. She is very beautiful in performance. The flatbread is divided into four equal segments. The first part symbolizes spring and contains artichokes and olives. The second - summer, consists of black pepper and salami. For the third part (autumn), mozzarella and tomatoes are used, and the fourth (winter) is prepared with boiled eggs and mushrooms.
Some countries have their own national pizza recipe. In Greece, feta cheese, olives and oregano are used for the filling. In France, mozzarella is replaced with blue cheese. Russian pizza is rich in ingredients. The famous phrase "whatever is left in the refrigerator" best describes this phenomenon.
Pizza can also be used as a dessert. The base is greased with yogurt, cream or jam, and various fruits and berries are used as the filling. Sprinkle the pizza on top with sweet cheeses or chocolate.
