Seafood dishes are very popular lately. However, on fasting days, when you cannot eat anything that contains meat, eggs and dairy products, you involuntarily wonder if you can eat squid, shrimp and mussels if you stick to a lean diet.

Everyone knows that meat, eggs and all dairy products are prohibited during fasting, but as for seafood, it remains a mystery to many. That is why the question of whether it is possible for those who are fasting to eat shrimp, squid and mussels are of interest to a considerable number of people.

So, all of the above seafood belongs to the family of crustaceans (shrimps), cephalopods (squid) and bivalve (mussels) molluscs, and they are not of plant origin, which is why they cannot be eaten. And if you are strict about fasting, then eliminate them from your diet.

Do not forget that fasting is not only a refusal of certain food, it is the achievement of spiritual goals, and it is almost impossible to achieve them without special food. If it is difficult for you to give up seafood, then use them as little as possible, for example, only on Sundays. According to church prescriptions, it is allowed to eat fish dishes and seafood only on Palm Sunday and on Annunciation, caviar is not prohibited on Lazarev Saturday. Let me remind you that in 2017 Lazarev Saturday is April 8, Palm Sunday is April 9, and the Annunciation is April 7.

Lent lasts a very long time, as much as 48 days, and many simply cannot afford to completely eliminate animal products from their diet for such a long time. Therefore, in order not to "break", buy some seafood and put them in the freezer. On days when you really want to stop fasting, just boil some shrimp or squid and make a salad with them. Such a dish would not be considered a strong apostasy from fasting.
