In most families, no meal goes by without bread. Many people cannot imagine life without this product, so it is not surprising that a huge number of people who decided to fast for the first time are interested in the question: "Is it possible to eat bread during Great Lent?"

In general, during Lent one should refrain from eating animal products, which include sausages and meat, fish and caviar, eggs and dairy products. Therefore, if bread contains milk, butter, eggs, then it cannot be eaten. Most types of bread do not have these products in their composition, which cannot be said about baked goods (it contains eggs, butter).

If you don’t know what is in the bread, then don’t buy it. Often on the days of fasting, you can see bread called "lean" on store shelves, its name speaks for itself. That is, you can eat it during fasting. If you have not found such a bread that you can eat during the fast, then bake it yourself. You can make carrot bread, for example.

Carrot Lean Bread Recipe

You will need:

- a glass of rye flour;

- half a glass of corn flour;

- two large carrots;

- glass of water;

- a tablespoon of sugar;

- half a teaspoon of salt.

Wash and grate the carrots on a coarse grater. Mix flour, salt and sugar, add water and knead the dough. Mix the prepared dough with carrots (if you bake bread on a weekend, you can add a little vegetable oil to it). Put the resulting mixture in a mold (preferably silicone) and bake in the oven for 50 minutes at 180 degrees. Cool and cut the food before serving.

It is worth noting that most people who are just starting to fast for the first time eat such bread almost every day, with the exception of the first and last week. More experienced laymen allow themselves to eat it only on weekends (Saturday and Sunday).
