It is customary to drink open wine immediately, without leaving the next day. But the drink can be easily saved from spoilage and stored for a longer period by plugging the bottle with a cork again. True, this is not always easy, since the base of the cork (if it is made of cork) turns out to be wider than the neck of the bottle. And yet there are home secrets on how to reseal the bottle.
It is necessary
- Casserole with lid
- Sieve
- Water
Instructions
Step 1
Fill a pot halfway with water and bring it to a boil. Boiling water will allow you to steam the cork until it is completely softened.
Step 2
When the water has boiled, remove the pan from the heat and immerse the strainer in the pan so that the bottom does not touch the water. Place the bottle cork in it.
Step 3
Close the pan with a lid and leave the cork to steam for 2-3 minutes, depending on the size of the cork (to seal the champagne, you will have to steam the cork for 5 minutes).
Step 4
The plug can now be squeezed easily between your fingers. Do not steam the cork for too long, as it may crumble when it cools, and it will also become too spongy and difficult to get into the bottle of wine.
Step 5
After placing the stopper in the neck, leave the wine bottle upright for one to two days. This will allow the cork to swell back to its size. As soon as it increases, the bottle can be put on its side, so that the wine constantly moistens the cork.
