Setting the table correctly for dinner is an activity that does not require special skills. You can teach this even to a child, and he will gladly become your helper when serving festive meals.

It is necessary

  • - tablecloth;
  • - cloth napkins;
  • - table service;
  • - wine glasses, wine glasses and glasses;
  • - cutlery.

Instructions

Step 1

Table setting for a formal dinner begins with the choice of a tablecloth. The classic color is white, but if you are satisfied with a different color scheme, there are no restrictions. The main thing is that it should be a good-quality fabric tablecloth, preferably linen. The ends of it should cover the legs of the table, hanging evenly from all sides. Traditionally, so that no knocking of instruments can be heard, a felt lining is placed under the tablecloth.

Step 2

Opposite the place for each guest, place small large plates, placing them 2.5 centimeters from the edge of the table. You can put snack plates on them if you plan to serve appetizers, followed by hot dishes. Or deep bowls if your menu includes soup. Of course, all plates and cutlery should be either from the same set, or be matched in style.

Step 3

Place the forks to the left of the plate with a downward bend. First, put a wider fork for meat or fish, depending on what dishes you plan to serve, then also place the fork for appetizers with the prongs up. The first fork should be about 1 centimeter from the edge of the plate.

Step 4

To the right of the plate in the same order, place the knives - closer to the plate, the hot knife, further away - the snack bar. The knives should lie with the blade towards the plate. If there is soup on the menu, place the soup spoon on the far right with a downward bend.

Step 5

Place glasses and shot glasses over the upper right corner of the plate. You can line them up in an arc, triangle, or in one line. The closest place should be a glass for water or juice. Its “rightful” place is an imaginary point at the intersection of the line from the knife and the edge of the plate. The basic rule when setting the table with wine glasses and glasses is that tall glasses should not cover low ones.

Step 6

Place a small bread plate on the left above the forks. The butter knife is placed horizontally above it. Dessert spoons and forks are also placed horizontally, but already above the "main" plate. They are laid out in random order, but they must be directed in opposite directions from each other.

Step 7

Place the cloth napkins either next to the forks, or fold them into a pretty structure and place them on a snack or soup plate. Napkins can be of the same color as the tablecloth, or contrasting ones.

Step 8

Place one low vase of flowers in the center of the table, so that the composition in it does not cover the guests' faces from each other, or arrange several small vases with small bouquets.
