Cocktail history

Translated from Spanish "Pigna Colada" means "strained pineapple". Pigna Colada was originally an ordinary pineapple juice. It was only later that rum was added to it. The drink gained popularity only in the 20th century - after a particularly successful combination of rum, coconut milk and pineapple juice was invented in one of the Puerto Rican bars. In which bar this happened is unknown. Three bartenders claim to be the discoverer of the cocktail. One of them is Ramon "Mojito" Marrero Perez. He claims to be the first to mix Pigna Colada at the ballroom at the Hilton Hotel in San Juan in 1952.

Pigna Colada is one of the traditional Caribbean cocktails. In Puerto Rico, Pina Colada is considered their national drink.
