Kvass is a traditional Russian drink that not only refreshes in the heat, but also serves as the basis for many dishes. As a rule, kvass is made from flour or rye bread. But if you want to save time, try making it with yeast and chicory. This brew will be ready in just 6 hours. And also he can be useful for making delicious okroshka.
It is necessary
- - cold water - 5 l;
- - sugar - 400 g;
- - dry yeast - 1 sachet (9 g) or pressed - 27 g;
- - ground classic chicory - 2 tbsp. l.;
- - citric acid - 1 tsp. with a slide or lemon juice - 2 tsp;
- - mint - a few leaves (optional);
- - pan.
Instructions
Step 1
Take a large saucepan and add sugar, chicory, and citric acid (or fresh lemon juice) to it. Then pour in the water and mix everything together well until the sugar is completely dissolved.

Then place the pot on the stove, set the temperature to medium, and bring the solution to a boil.

After boiling, immediately remove the pan and cool it until warm (35 degrees). Now add dry yeast or pressed yeast to the solution, which must first be chopped into small pieces, and stir well. At the same time, if you wish, you can add a little mint to give the drink a richer taste.
Step 4
Once the prep work is complete, cover the pot with a lid, wrap it up with a blanket and store in a warm place for 4 hours.
Step 5
After the time has elapsed, pour the finished kvass into jars or plastic bottles and put it in the refrigerator. As soon as it cools down, it can be served or okroshka made from it.
